Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

Fluffy Banana Bread with Chunks of Chocolate

There is nothing better than the classic banana bread. I realized I didn’t have a recipe for banana bread on my blog and knew I needed to add one. This recipe is super delicious without being overly sweet. The main sweetness comes from the banana with a little coming from the chocolate and coconut sugar.

I love switching up my add-ins every time I make this recipe. I love adding chopped walnuts, chocolate, coconut, etc. This bread is always a winner in my house and never lasts long. If you ever have any leftover ripe bananas this is definitely the recipe to try!

My favorite part is that everything is made in one bowl, so it makes for a super easy clean up. A lot of the ingredients are super simple as well.

Bananas: be sure your bananas are ripe as this is the main source of sweetness in the recipe. If your bananas aren’t ripe yet, you can microwave them in 30 second intervals until they are mushy.

Almond butter: I like using almond butter in this recipe; however, you can use any nut or seed butter of your choice. Be sure it is on the runnier side rather than super chunky.

Applesauce: I use unsweetened applesauce. Ideally you would want the only ingredients to be apples and water. I find the recipe is sweet enough using unsweetened applesauce. If you want though, you can use sweetened. If you don’t want to use applesauce, you could use more bananas or pumpkin puree.

Coconut sugar: I like to use coconut sugar to keep the recipe refined sugar free, however, any granulated sugar will work. For example, stevia or monk fruit. A liquid sweetener like maple syrup will alter the recipe.

All-purpose flour: I haven’t tested any other flours in this recipe. The closest substitute would be oat flour or almond flour. The measurements will be different though so be sure to add slowly and mix as you go.

Chocolate: you can use any chocolate you want. You can also leave out the chocolate.

Ingredients:

  • Bananas

  • Almond butter

  • Applesauce

  • Coconut sugar

  • Baking powder

  • All-purpose flour

  • Chocolate

Recipe:

  • 3 bananas

  • ½ cup almond butter

  • ½ cup applesauce

  • ¼ cup coconut sugar

  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

  • 2/3 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Directions:

1.    Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

2.    Line a baking pan with parchment paper or spray with cooking spray.

3.    In a bowl mash the bananas. Add in the almond butter, applesauce, and sugar. Stir well.

4.    Add in the baking powder and all-purpose flour. Stir well. Fold in the chocolate chips.

5.    Bake for 35 minutes.

6.    Optional: once cooled topped with melted chocolate and crushed nuts.

Be sure to store the banana bread in the refrigerator. It should last up to 1 week. You can store it in the freezer to last longer. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
