Valentine’s Day Sugar Cookies
Gluten-Free & Dairy-Free Cookies
These festive sugar cookies are one of my favorite recipes to make around any holiday. They are especially perfect for any Valentine’s Day gathering. They only require seven simple ingredients. I love making a batch of the cookies then decorating them with family/friends.
You can get super creative with the designs of these cookies! You could also use a cookie cutter and make them into hearts for Valentine’s Day. If you do use a cookie cutter, I recommend letting the dough chill in the refrigerator for about an hour.
Another festive idea would be to use food coloring and make the cookies red or pink! If you’d rather a more natural coloring, you could use beet root powder.
I topped my cookies with sprinkles; however, you could also add the sprinkles to the dough as well. If you aren’t vegan, the Valentine’s Day M&Ms would work perfectly in this recipe.
Almond flour: I haven’t tested any other flours in this recipe. I love using almond flour as it makes the cookies fluffy while also being grain-free and gluten-free. You could try oat flour; however, the measurements will be different.
Applesauce: I always use unsweetened applesauce as the maple syrup gives the cookies enough sweetness. If you don’t want to use applesauce, you could try mashed banana or pumpkin. The cookies won’t turn out the exact same, but it should still work.
Maple syrup: I love using maple syrup as the sweeter in this recipe. Any LIQUID sweetener will work. Examples include, honey, agave, etc.
Frosting: any frosting will work. I used a store-bought vanilla frosting. There are tons of vegan frosting recipes online. Also, a lot of store-bought frostings are vegan.
Sprinkles: any sprinkles will work. I bought my heart shaped Valentine’s Day ones from TJ Maxx!
